 From first grade I participated in the after school programs of the Jaffa Institute and then continued my involvement by working as an assistant counselor. After my army service - with the help of a Jaffa Institute scholarship - I successfully completed my university degree in psychology. I then returned to the Institute to use my new skills as a group leader for at-risk children. It is clear to me that I would never have experienced so much success in my life without the support of the Institute. I look back on my childhood and my time spent with the Jaffa Institute is my most prominent memory. - Eliza Pontromoli, 25.

In the earliest days of the Jaffa Institute, our children's greatest aspirations were to obtain some sort of full time employment. Staff at the Institute could only hope that one or two of the children would be able to complete their twelve years of education and, perhaps, pass their high school matriculation exams.

 Over the years, Jaffa Institute programs have effectively and visibly raised the level of education the children in our care receive, while providing them with the self-confidence and ambition to work towards a better life. Today a significant number of our graduates possess both the aspirations and the skills needed to embark upon higher education, at university or college.

Ever year, more and more Jaffa Institute "graduates" are accepted to institutions of higher education. The weight of this accomplishment should not be underestimated as all of these disadvantaged youth had to seek extra help in our afternoon programs and correct learning difficulties with educators and at our therapeutic clinic in order to compete with the level of education youngsters from wealthier locales receive.

 In spite of these obstacles, we expect these remarkable young people to rise above the difficulties they have inherited and complete a university degree. In order to help these children realize their dreams of higher education, the Institute provides them with financial scholarship support, thanks to the generous help of private donors. Without this assistance, our children simply will not be able to finance their university education.

We take great pride in having successfully prepared our students for university enrollment through academic enrichment and support programs. When we first started the scholarship program, only 3 of our students were headed for higher education. Today, the Institute is handing out hundreds of scholarship awards every year. Importantly, all Jaffa Institute graduates who are accepted into a higher education institution and apply for a scholarship with the Jaffa Institute WILL receive a scholarship.
