Stressing two important components of Judaism- community and tzedakah, Youth 4 Youth is aimed at both promoting a connection and encouraging direct involvement of Jewish young people in the Diaspora, their families, and their communities with children and youth in Jaffa, Holon, and Bat Yam.
Young People's Fundraising Program- Children often find it exciting to learn about young people like themselves in other parts of the world; Jewish children are especially curious about their Israeli counterparts. As Jewish communities throughout the Diaspora look for ways to strengthen their young people's ties to Israel, the Youth 4 Youth program's fundraising component enables children in Jewish day schools and Hebrew schools to connect with Israel by "adopting" specific Jaffa Institute children in particular Jaffa Institute programs. The children themselves choose the Jaffa Institute student and/or program for which they raise funds - while exchanging pictures, personal messages and information about Jewish life and customs in Israel and abroad - and then present their contribution to an Institute representative at the end of their fundraising project.

"Put the 'Mitzvah' Back into Bar/Bat Mitzvah" Program - One of the most significant events in a Jewish youth's life is their Bar/Bat Mitzvah. During this time, young people traditionally examine their responsibility to themselves, their families and their communities. With this new found awareness, the young adult often begins to reflect on the plight of those less fortunate. In this facet of the Youth 4 Youth initiative, Bar/Bat Mitzvah youth organize various fundraising projects - or choose to donate part, or all of their Bar/Bat Mitzvah gifts - to raise money for a specific Jaffa Institute project they feel close to. This initiative helps plant the first seeds of philanthropy and tikun olam in the young adult while benefiting Israel's most needy.

New! The Jaffa Institute and MissionFish - Interested in a new and exciting way to help some of Israel's neediest children while getting rid of the clutter in your home? The Jaffa Institute has just teamed up with MissionFish (www.missionfish.org) and eBay Giving Works (www.ebay.com) in an exciting initiative that allows YOU to help us more than ever before… by selling on eBay! It's easy:
First, register with MissionFish at www.missionfish.org
Second, use your eBay seller's account to create a listing for everything from books and kitchen utensils to menorahs and power tools. When creating the listing you will have the option to "donate a portion of this sale" and will be prompted to choose the receiving nonprofit organization. (You may donate anywhere between 5-100% of the final value of the sold item).
Third, your item will appear on eBay with the Giving Works icon indicating all or a portion of the sale will go towards supporting the work of the Jaffa Institute (our mission statement will also be shown).
Fourth, when the listing ends the buyer pays the seller and the seller ships the item to the buyer - as usual. The seller then pays their donation to MissionFish (or has the donation automatically deducted from their credit card). MissionFish then distributes the donation to the Jaffa Institute, and the seller receives a receipt from MissionFish for the gift.
Perfect for youth groups, Bar/Bat Mitzvah projects, Hebrew school projects, families and individuals; we hope you'll take this unique opportunity to raise funds in support of the Jaffa Institute's awarding winning programs.
The Jaffa Institute would like to offer your community, and especially your young people, the opportunity to join our "family" of supporters. Members of our staff are always available to discuss ways to best implement the Youth 4 Youth initiative in your community. Not only can you make a real difference in the lives of the children of Jaffa, but also in the lives of your own children. Please contact Shira Skolnik (shira@jaffainst.co.il) for more information.
