Musical minds
Musical Minds: Arts Education Program provides disadvantaged children, ages 3-12, with biweekly creative enrichment programming. Musical Minds operates at our After-School Educational Enrichment Centers for at-risk youth, as well as at public schools in Bat Yam.
program activities
-
All music sessions begin by warming up with group singing of familiar and new repertoire and seasonal holiday songs.
-
Group circle activities, tuning in to one another and assisting their peers to remember melodies and lyrics, building group inclusiveness, empathy, and reducing inhibitions.
-
Lessons in singing, ear-training, instrument practice, reading musical notes, learning new pieces, and playing concentration games.
CULTURAL APPRECIATION
To instill an appreciation of the contribution that diverse cultures have made to the creative arts, the program staff expose the children to a variety of artistic styles and musical instruments, such as the Middle Eastern darbuka drum as well as songs in Hebrew, Russian, French, Amharic, and English. As a result, Musical Minds, ensures that all of the children from diverse backgrounds feel welcome and empowers them to grow academically, socially, emotionally, and creatively.

"When I first joined the after school center, I was shy with the others in my group. but, During my first session at Musical Minds, I learned the “darbuka” drum and was asked to lead my group with the new rhythm. that moment made me more confident and comfortable with my peers."
